You don’t need to carry a camera and multiple lenses

I use to carry a camera with a lens mounted and also several lenses just to make sure I don’t miss a shot.

But how many times did you swap lenses, or even use the lenses you bought with you? Chances are you decided to keep shooting with the lens you had on the camera in the first place.

The other alternative is to use a zoom lens 24-70 or 70-200 to cover most of what you expect to happen. But zooms are heavier than primes, much heavier. The long-day makes photography seem like work than pleasure with zooms.

I swapped to primes. Or rather, I refused to use something that is that heavy. I had discovered just how enjoyable the 300 PF is, that I refused to take the focally shorter 70-200. Construction-wise this zoom is built solid like a tank, and unfortunately it also weighs as heavy as a tank. Other primes from the older generation were not much better. The Phase Fresnel innovation and design made it half the weight. The difference between 1.5kg and 2.5kg is significant.

Before the PF lens even telephoto primes were heavy like zooms so the difference between primes and zooms was a moot point.

And with deciding on one body/lens per trip I no longer even needed a bag to carry other gear. My hands are free. I don’t look like a photographer. I get the shot.

And by carrying less photography all of the sudden becomes enjoyable again.
